Unless you live under a rock, you have been hearing a whole lot about guns, gun control, gun bans and universal background checks in the media in the past few months. There is a whole lot of controversy that goes along with all this, from the second amendment, and the belief that taking or banning guns is unconstitutional.
You can read about it here (or many other places on the web):
It's a tricky line to walk between our amendments, and safety. I personally agree that there should be background checks and securities for buying weapons from private sellers, gun shows, etc... but I do see how there are other who oppose such a thing!
I agree with background checks, if that is in fact what they actually are, however when you read the legislation, the term "background check" is hardly what these are.. They are essentially a national registry for people who currently own, and are newly buying fire arms. If you recall a few months back there was a map that went into circulation of everyone who is registered in the state of New York (a felony if you didnt have your gun registered) with a gun. How on earth is it constitutional to publish a map showing all the registered, and law abiding citizens (yes, I say law abiding because these people are following the law, and have their guns registered through their state. Those who have purchase or stole guns clearly are not on this map.) that own guns, and where they live?
This is a very controversial situation. I am in for background checks on people purchasing new guns, however, I am NOT in for a national registry of people who own guns legally.
